To celebrate our first birthday, Professor Ted Fuller (Head of the Business School at the University of Lincoln) will address us on the subject of "Alternative Futures".
In the current period of rapid and unpredictable economic change, Lincolnshire businesses not only need to deal with the immediate economic downturn, but also plan to secure their long-term robust future.
There are many techniques for constructing ideas about the future in a dynamic and uncertain environment, the key point is that any idea about the future is a construction, is fallible and is most useful as a thought experiment, not a prediction. Human futures, being continuously created mainly by unpredictable combinations of human action, are unpredictable.
The main question under discussion in this session is how well you know how the future is created in your industry. For example, how is value created in the system of economic and social value and wealth creation in which your business is embedded? How do the value creating systems that you are dependent on work? How do they learn, adapt and remain resilient? What value do you create in these systems?
Much food for thought - and not to be missed!
