Non-runners often look with a mixture of awe and incredulity at the marathon runner. How can anyone run 26.2 miles and not die! Well, obviously the marathon runner needs to train hard to get him/herself in as good physical shape as possible but then comes the real challenge – conquering your own mind. So often people are defeated before the marathon even begins because their minds are not trained to the same degree as their bodies. I believe that there is a strong co-relation between running marathons and running a successful business and in this presentation I hope to show you how to be better prepared mentally to run a successful business. In these challenging times if we lose the mental battle we are in danger of kissing our businesses goodbye, so come along and let me help you strengthen your mind for the road ahead, however long it is.
My short bio:
Billy is a gifted and enthusiastic public speaker who has spent the past 20 years honing his speaking, negotiating and facilitating skills with the largest 'not-for-profit' organisation in the world... the church. Before becoming a minister he spent 16 years in industry as a management accountant, working for United Biscuits, Pilkington Glass and Pinneys of Scotland amongst others. He is a qualified accountant (CIMA) and has a BA (Hons) in Theology.
He is now once again back in the corporate world working as a coach in communication and presentation skills where, using a combination of up front tuition and client participation, he helps people to excel in the public speaking arena. Every time you open your mouth in the corporate world you are performing, and that performance is being judged and ultimately affects your bottom line. His aim is to give people the necessary skills and confidence to perform well in each and every occasion that they are required to influence someone. His recent clients have included The RAC, Transitions Lenses, IHG, Comet, Avis, BBC World Service trust and St Mungos.
Billy is also a director of a negotiation company where he trains executives to think differently about negotiating, whether they are in the boardroom, the shop floor or the procurement office. His courses are not off-the-shelf training manuals but negotiation strategies gained from hard hours at the coal face. He is dedicated to maximising the value his clients deliver through their commercial negotiations. He helps people think differently about negotiation, change their behaviour and enable them to deliver remarkable results for themselves and their organisations. Billy not only teaches negotiating but actually negotiates on behalf of companies as well.
One of Billy’s favourite pastimes is long-distance running. He has run a number of marathons and believes that in business you should never trust a sprinter!
